What no one will tell you about self-learning -in tech-

Hello everyone in my first ever medium article, It’s not my first time to blog but it’s the first time to blog with my name ;), I wanted the first article to be a kick-off, not technically heavy, just a chat.

First I want to introduce myself as well as my background,

I’m a senior computer engineering student who’s currently into Machine learning engineering and data science, I like writing, learning, music and volunteering but my LOVE is to know everything about everything, I also like cultures and thinking about human behaviors, opinions, and actions.

When I was in the 9th grade I was first introduced to programming and it felt awesome, that power to create and translate your ideas so that a machine can understand was pretty impressive to me, that’s when I knew what I wanted to be. Sadly life didn’t go as planned I didn’t become a 14-year-old nerd, but 3 years later I managed to make it to engineering school and start the actual journey….

In college, I was first introduced to self-learning, MOOCS, programming competitions, and all these cool things and honestly, I felt like everyone knew everything about everything -Later I was proven wrong-

But no one really told me that:

1- It’s ok to feel lost, we all feel that 99% of the time, you question urself and ur skills, and you don’t think or feel that this is the right way to do things. But it’s totally normal.

2- CUT-OUT people who make you feel bad about urself or who make you feel like you’re not good enough, oh how I wish someone had told me that earlier, I was friends with the wrong people, it happens but what I regret is that letting them get into my head and believe that I wasn’t good or skilled enough.

3- There’s always time to learn and surprisingly you’ll always be learning so stop feeling like everyone is 1000 miles ahead of you ’cause this is gonna drain your energy instead of pushing you.

4- Remember to have fun and breathe, we sometimes bury ourselves in studying and school work without stopping to have a breath and just rest, this makes us wear out even faster, just breathe you’ll gonna make it before the deadline.

  • One of the major things that helped me balance is splitting my goals into long term and short term goals, this is helping me take control of my time especially when I have many projects and exams.
  • Also having a to-do list for the day is great to help you estimate the time needed to do ur tasks or study.

5- Volunteering and sharing what you know with everyone will make you a better person, hiding your resources won’t make you the best, the more you give the more you’ll gain, I intend to talk about this in detail in another blog.

Finally, it’s ok to feel anxious just don’t drown in that feeling, Be kind we are all trying, You’re doing enough.

And don’t forget to start your day with a good cup of coffee, it changes everything ❤

Thank you ❤
